Lying has been normalized

Ex-President Trump’s tax returns have been released, having been delayed for about six years.  We now know that his tax returns never were under audit, and so often claimed.  I personally feel very blessed in that I have the privilege of paying more taxes that Donald Trump three of the last six years.  We know that Ex-President Trump claimed charitable deductions with cash, and no supporting documentation.  Following the same rules, I anticipate never having to pay income tax again in my life.  If the tax returns are complex, the Republican Party wrote the present tax law.  Does anybody really  possible believe that when Ex-President Trump flew to Mar-A-Lago the very night the bill was signed and said “I just made you guys a lot of money”, that he was not talking to his billionaire buddies?  And we also know that the IRS was not conducting routine audits on President Trump’s tax returns as required by law until they were goaded to do so by the request for tax returns.  The Chief of the IRS at that time was a Trump appointee, Charles Rettig, who co-incidentally had previous financial ties to Ex-President Trump.

This is important because with the Republicans in charge of the House, the first thing that they want to eliminate, under supposed deficit reduction, want to eliminate increased funding for the IRS.  In fact, due to funding restrictions of about two percent a year for ten years the IRS has been severely restricted in it’s ability to do it’s job, to include audits of the most wealthy individuals.  There are 25,000 individuals in this country with a net worth of $10 Million or more, and 66 of those 25,000 had their tax returns audited in a recent years.  And in fact, the last 4 IRS Commissioners have expressed support for this bill knowing that it will result in increased revenues that will pay for the additional funding  ten times over.

In Republican Congress person who tells you that IRS against will come to your door with assault weapons is to be blunt about it, lying to you, and deserves to be called out for such..  We now expect the IRS to accomplish its mission with equipment dating back to the 1950s.  Thank God we do not expect our military to do such!

Thanks to the elimination of the Fairness Doctrine by Ex-President Reagan, as a “payback” to Rupert Murdock, lying is perfectly legal.  Donald Trump well knows that he can lie with impunity, until he goes under oath, he faces no consequences.  And that is only the tip-of-the-iceberg of outright lying and deception of the American people.

Sincerely,
