Marcellus (Marc) Joseph Sprenger, 88, passed away Tuesday, April 13, 2021.

He was born Jan.11,1933 in Jefferson City.

He was united in marriage to Virginia (Ginny) Barnds Aug. 24, 1960, in Columbia.

Marc served in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean War. He graduated from the University of Missouri in Columbia and Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa and held a Bachelor and Master’s degree in Psychology. Marc was employed with Iowa Workforce Development for 22 years in Des Moines, Ottumwa, Fairfield and Oskaloosa, Iowa. During his time there, he served was President of the International Association of Personnel in Employment Security (IAPES).

He enjoyed family camping, visiting relatives, gardening but most of all raising their three children. Marc was a lifelong Missouri Tigers and St. Louis Cardinals fan and loved playing fast-pitch softball, pitching into his 50’s. Marc also served as president of Ottumwa’s American Little League. He was an avid reader and loved attending his kids’ and grandkids’ activities. Some of his favorite sayings were, “Don’t worry about things that you can’t control.”, “Don’t burn any bridges.” and “Remember that every day you’re doing your best.”

Marc was preceded in death by parents, Anthony and Teresa; brother James; sister-in-law, June Mason Sprenger; and brother-in-law Melvin Wolfe.

He is survived by wife Ginny; sons, Joe and Darren and wife Angie; daughter Anita and husband Jake; grandchildren, Amanda, Andrea, Brandon, Alivia, Colton and Easton; five great-grandchildren, Marcella, Marek, Mila, Gibson and baby boy Sprenger; sister Shirley Wolfe; nephews, Jeff, Brad and Lindell Wolfe and Dave Sprenger and wife Julie; niece, Kimberly Sprenger; great-niece Briony; and great-great-nieces Esme and Lacey.

A private memorial service is planned for family and close friends at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel, Iowa. A live stream of the service will also be available at www.caldwellparrish.com.
