Margaret Renilda Schulte, 89, Jefferson City, passed away Thursday, Sept. 9, 2021, at Oak Tree Villas.

She was born May 17, 1932, to the late Hugo Peter and Mary Cecilia (Thoenen) Niekamp on Dodd’s Island in Cole County.

She was united in marriage to Joseph Edward Schulte June 3, 1952 at St. Martin Catholic Church.

Margaret was a 1950 graduate of Jefferson City High School.

A devoted mother who always prioritized her family, she stayed home to raise her children until the last one was well into grade school. Margaret began her business career with Sears as a telephone salesperson where she navigated through the pages of the Sears catalog quickly and efficiently to help her customers. In 1988, she began working as a bookkeeper at Exchange Bank, retiring in 1997.

Margaret was an active member of St. Martin Catholic Church, serving as a communion minister and an usher, Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary and St. Jude Ladies Auxiliary. She volunteered as a teacher’s aide at St. Martin Catholic School, the Samaritan Center and the American Cancer Society.

She enjoyed writing, puzzles, reading and was responsible for binding many quilts for the St. Martin Catholic Church picnic, but Margaret’s favorite times were with her husband, Joseph, and their large family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; parents, Hugo and Mary; great-grandson, Cole Nilges; and sister, Elizabeth Niekamp.

Margaret is survived by children, Richard Schulte and wife Roberta and Janel Schnieders and husband Pete, all of Holts Summit, Geralyn Brewer and husband Jeff and Karen Schnieders and husband Kevin, all of Jefferson City, Stephen Schulte and wife Nancy of California, and Brian Schulte and wife Fay of Lohman; 11 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren;13 great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; sister, Clara Schulte and husband Alfred of Jefferson City; and brother, Leonard Niekamp and wife Willine of Jefferson City.

A Mass of Christian burial was held Tuesday, Sept. 14, at St. Martin Catholic Church with the Rev. Jason T. Doke officiating.

Interment was in St. Martin Catholic Cemetery.

Memorial contributions suggested to St. Martin Catholic Church, Helias Foundation or Vitae Society.
