Mary Lou Heckman, 98, Westphalia, passed away Monday, Jan. 10, 2022, at Westphalia Hills surrounded by her family.

She was born Dec. 2, 1923, to the late Henry A. and Gertrude (Castrop) Luebbert in Westphalia.

She was united in marriage to John Peter Heckman Feb. 27, 1946, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Westphalia.

Mary Lou worked for three years at the Oberman Manufacturing Company in Jefferson City during World War II when they made Army and Navy uniforms and once married, she was a homemaker raising their five children.

She was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church and St. Ann’s Ladies Sewing Circle.

Mary Lou loved to quilt and enjoyed making quilts for each of her 18 grandchildren and many baby quilts for the great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed baking for her family, traveling with her husband, working in her flower beds and her beloved dog Mindy who was always by her side.

Mary Lou was preceded in death by husband of 69 years, John; parents, Henry and Gertrude; son-in-law, Richard Schulte; great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Zimmer and Cohen Isenberg; and brothers, Wilfred Luebbert and wife Esther and Leonard Luebbert.

She is survived by children, Allan Heckman and wife Janice, Leon Heckman and wife Jane and Randy Heckman and wife Darla, all of Folk, Linda Kay Schulte and Geralyn Luebbert and husband Kenneth, all of Jefferson City; 18 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren including one born the day she died, Jax; and three great-great-grandchildren.

A private family Mass of Christian burial was held Thursday, Jan.13, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Folk with the Rev. Anthony Viviano officiating.

Interment was in St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Cemetery.
