Matt A. Voss, 89, Linn, passed away Monday, Feb. 15, 2021, at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City surrounded by his loving family.

He was born March 23, 1931, to the late Matt W. and Margaret (Kliethermes) Voss in Linn.

He was united in marriage to Rosemary “Rosie” Scheulen May 15, 1957 at St. George Catholic Church.

Matt was a 1949 graduate of Linn High School. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 until 1956 during the Korean Conflict.

Matt was a dairy farmer for 30 years and then in 1985 started raising beef cattle only until retiring in 2011. He also worked for three years at Linn State Technical College.

Matt was a member of St. George Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus for over 50 years, the American Legion Post #317 in Freeburg serving as Adjunt for six years and was a board member for the Public Water District and the maintenance supervisor for five years.

He loved deer hunting, bird hunting, fish gigging, teaching the grandchildren how to hunt and fish. Matt enjoyed baseball in the front yard, pitching horseshoes, playing card games especially Preference, playing marbles and taking road trips with his wife. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan and was always following his children and grandchildren’s sporting events. In his younger years Matt enjoyed bowling at the VFW Bowling Alley where he won several 1st place trophies for the Linn State Bank Team.

He was preceded in death by spouse, Rosie; parents, Matt and Margaret; brothers, William “Bill”, Marcellous “Marc” and Gerald “Jerry” Voss; and one sister, Ruth “Tiny” Gadell.

Matt is survived by, children, Colleen Kliethermes and husband Ralph of Belle, Steve Voss and wife Doris of Linn, Matt “Sonny” Voss of Wentzville, Diana Foster and husband Danny of Linn, Ronald Voss and wife Lara of Linn and Douglas Voss and wife Brenda of Lohman; 22 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren with one on the way; sisters-in-law, Barb Voss of Washington and JoAnn Voss of Linn; faithful dog, Penny; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 20, at St. George Catholic Church in Linn with Fr. Colin Franklin and Fr. Daniel Merz officiating. Interment with full military honors was in the St. George Parish Cemetery.

Memorial contributions suggested to St. George Catholic Church in Linn.
