Maurice Irene Wehmeyer, 94, Chamois, passed away peacefully Saturday, Nov. 26, 2022, with her family by her side.

She was born July 9, 1928, to the late Ferdinand August and Alma Marie (Karmer) Peters in Morrison.She was united in marriage to Delmer E. Wehmeyer June 30, 1951.

Maurice was a 1946 graduate of Chamois High School.

She was a hardworker and dedicated her time and efforts to multiple companies including Rowden’s and Oberman’s in Chamois. Maurice also worked as a nurse’s aide at Deaconess Hospital near St. Louis and later retired from Mosby – Medical Book Warehouse in Linn.

When she wasn’t busy working, Maurice often volunteered her time to her community and was very involved. She was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Chamois, the Women’s Fellowship Group, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Post 506, served on the PTO when her daughters were in school, and served in the Community in Action Group in Chamois.

Maurice enjoyed many things in life but would tell you her favorite past time was sewing. She took great pride in fixing her grandkids’ clothes and being there to support them in their many activities. She also enjoyed cooking, dancing, and meeting her friends for lunch. Maurice will be deeply missed by those who were blessed to know her.

She was preceded in death by husband, Delmer Wehmeyer; parents, Ferdinand and Alma; sister, Faye Perrey; and brother-in-law, Marvin Perrey.

Maurice is survived by daughters, Janet Ann Backes and husband Larry and Sue Del Lamb and husband Wayne; grandchildren, Brad Backes and wife Amy, David Backes, Michael Backes and friend Melissa Hladky, Dan Lamb and wife Bri, Scott Lamb and Stephanie Veuleman and husband Nick; great-grandchildren, Rose, Violet, Hunter and Millie Backes, Grant and Theo Lamb, Josie and Elliott Veuleman and Amy Hladky.

The funeral service was held Tuesday, Nov. 29, at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Chamois. Inurnment will take place at a later date.
