More than 300 Scouts of America will gather at State Technical College of Missouri on Saturday for the Merit Badge University, hosted for the 21st year by Linn Troop 17.

The day will begin with an opening ceremony, which will include raising the flag and participants reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, Scout Oath, and Scout Law.

Scouts will then disperse to one of 40 merit badge classes to learn the basics of the topic and gain hands-on experience. By the end of the day, scouts will have earned a merit badge that moves them one step closer to attaining Eagle Rank.

“It’s always an honor to host the Scouts of America Merit Badge University in cooperation with Troop 17,” said State Tech President Dr. Shawn Strong. “We enjoy working with the community to host this worthwhile project. The things learned at Merit Badge University broaden horizons and provide life skills for young scouts.”

Merit Badges offered on Saturday include American Culture, Animal Science, Animation, Archery, Architecture, Automotive Maintenance, Aviation, Chemistry, Chess, Citizenship in the Community, Citizenship in the World, Communication, Cooking, Crime Prevention, Disabilities Awareness, Dog Care, Drafting, Emergency Preparedness, Engineering, First Aid, Genealogy, Geology, Home Repairs, Inventing, Metalwork, Mining in Society, Personal Fitness, Personal Management, Photography, Robotics, Search and Rescue, Sustainability, and Welding.
