Meta Fire holds community parade

Posted

Meta Fire & Rescue FPD members organized a parade on Saturday for the citizens of Meta.

Firefighters were also joined by COMM-Unity ambulance members, as well as Osage County Sheriff Mike Bonham and his wife, Glenda, and two deputies.

“The idea behind the parade was to lift the spirits of everyone cooped up in their houses due to the COVID-19 quarantine,” said Chief Kenneth W. Helton. “I put out a notice on social media to get as many birthdays and anniversaries as possible so that we could recognize them during the parade.”

The department received six notifications and made a stop at those locations to wish each person a happy birthday.

Helton said the weather cleared up and warmed up just in time for the parade. “It was so nice to see all of the residents outside watching the parade waving and cheering as we went by,” he added. “I hope the community enjoyed it as much as we did.”
