META — At their July 10 meeting, Meta aldermen selected Trileaf Corporation, an environmental, architecture, and engineering firm in St. Louis, to conduct a cultural survey for the proposed park project.
City Clerk Deidra Buechter mailed cultural surveys for the Land Water Conservation Fund Grant to archaeological research groups..
She explained the surveys are required as part of the city’s grant application to improve the park at the new maintenance facility.
“The Osage Nation requested we conduct the survey, so we have engaged a firm to handle it,” said Buechter.
Aldermen selected Trileaf after a review of four proposals, with the St. Louis firm offering a cost of $1,800.
In question is the 2.5-acre area in which the proposed park would be built. The survey will identify historic properties within the area to satisfy the survey standards published by the Osage Nation Historic Preservation Office.
If no archeological resources are identified following the survey, which will take four to six weeks, they will be provided in a report within 10 days after fieldwork is completed.
Terracon Consults of St. Louis ($9,800), Stone Point Services of Tyler, Texas ($7,750), and SCI of St. Charles ($5,000) also bid on the project. “They all offered basically the same process, so we decided to go with the best price,” said Buechter.
In other business, aldermen renewed the city’s floodplain management contract with the Meramec Regional Planning Commission (MRPC) at a cost not exceeding $2,000. Buechter noted that overseeing floodplain management is easier for MRPC, which has a person dedicated to this field.
