LINN — Meta aldermen approved the purchase of additional blocks to complete the renovation of the welcome sign.
Alderman Otto Wankum explained that maintenance crews had installed about 90% of the blocks on one of the signs. “When I went up there, I gave them the measurements of what we needed,” he said. “They gave us the blocks that should cover all that. They were supposed to give us enough for both signs.”
Wankum said the finished sign looks pretty good, but he suggested the city purchase regular concrete blocks to finish the second one. “It’s going to be cheaper for the city to do that versus what we got,” he added.
Board members approved the purchase of 35 blocks last month, and this month’s approval will allow Wankum to complete the project.
• Wankum reported that the grass-cutting equipment is ready for the upcoming season.
In other business, aldermen agreed to renew their contract with Flynn Well Drilling through 2027 for $350 per year. The firm inspects the city’s water tower on an annual basis.
• Aldermen approved the renewal of the city’s insurance plan through MoPERM at a cost of $9,371 for the year.
City Attorney Nathan Nickolaus suggested the city seek bids for insurance next year.
“We tried to shop around last year, and nobody wanted to beat this or give us a quote,” City Clerk Deidra Buechter said.
• Nickolaus told aldermen his office continues to pursue legal remedies for nuisance properties.
• The next meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. on May 21, and a budget workshop will be held at 5:15 p.m. on May 29.
