Morrison seeks help with ARPA fund use

Posted

Morrison Mayor Melissa Strope at the board’s meeting last Tuesday noted the city has received $13,116.06 in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds.

Aldermen agreed to seek help from the Meramec Regional Planning Commission (MRPC). The plan is to ask someone to attend the next meeting to explain how the funds can be used and the reporting requirements.

In the meantime, those funds have been placed in a separate account.

In other business, a resolution was approved by aldermen to adopt the Gasconade County Multi-Jurisdiction Natural Hazards Mitigation Plan.

* Alderman Jason Koenigsfeld told colleagues that logging began on Monday, Oct 11, and will last two to three weeks weather permitting. Strope said the city of Morrison and the city of Gasconade will receive checks every Friday from the logger.

* Koenigsfeld reported that there was a leak at 319 Main Street.

* Alderman Steve Nolte suggested that the city look into snow removal for the winter.

* Alderman Rick Penrod noted that the car had been moved at the top of Third St. and he was asked about putting in a speed bump there.

* In public works issues, it was noted that Scott Strope plans to fix the water line leak and the water meter at Curtis Lauck’s property at 319 Main St., which will require digging across Main St.  A water bill for basic utility charges was sent to Curtis Lauck with a water meter deposit and account setup fee.  He wants the renter to pay the bill and deposit.

* The sidewalk at the bottom of the Main Street hill still needs repair. Koenigsfeld said the trees on Morrison Avenue need to be trimmed and Penrod noted that trees on top of the Main Street hill also need trimming. Aldermen approved a request from a person asking for community service hours to help clean up tree limbs and the streets.

* City Hall gutters need to be cleaned and lights need to be replaced. Koenigsfeld told the board he is also looking for a good used air-conditioning system to install at City Hall.

* Ten customers with water bills overdue were sent delinquency notices and letters were sent to four former residents and property owners who have balances due.

* Treasurer Saundra Hartge’s report showed expenses of $5,774.21 in September and income totaling $18,014.82, with $25,735.47 in checking, and $7,635.32 in savings, for a total of $33,370.79.

* The next regular meeting will be held on Nov. 9 at 7:30 p.m.
