Mozelle Hutchison McKenzie, 87, a long-time resident of Vienna, passed away Saturday, June 26, 2021, at Stonebridge Living Center in Westphalia.
She was born Sept. 7, 1933 to the late Burton K. and Frieda L. (Alber) Moseley in Cambridge, Neb.
She was united in marriage to Jay C. Hutchison July 10, 1952 , at her parents’ home near Cambridge.
After her husband’s service in the U.S. Air Force ended, they returned to his home town of Vienna where they lived the rest of their lives together until he preceded her in death. Later Mozelle was united in marriage to James L. McKenzie and eventually relocated to his home town of Inverness, Fla. for a number of years until he also preceded her in death.
Mozelle was employed as a secretary by the Maries R-1 school district in Vienna and also drove a school bus for many years. Mozelle was a member of the Vienna United Methodist Church for more than 60 years, a member of the Vienna chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and was a charter member of the Historical Society of Maries County, and an enthusiastic supporter of the society’s activities, as well as the operations of the Old Jail Museum in Vienna. She was also the co-author, along with daughter Gail, of “The Cemeteries of Maries County”, a comprehensive and well-regarded genealogical research volume.
Mozelle was preceded in death by parents, Burton and Frieda; both of her husbands, Jay C. Hutchison and James L. McKenzie, son, Kyle C. Hutchison; and brother and sister-in-law, Lyndal and Gini Moseley.
She is survived by son, Barry Hutchison and wife Patty and daughter, Gail Howard and husband Rich, all of Vienna; grandchildren, Rick Hutchison and wife Becky, Chris Hutchison and wife Hailey, Michael Hutchison and wife Reva, David Hutchison, Malinda Howard, Kindra Edwards and husband Anthony, Sarah Rowden and husband Matt, and Ryan and Holly Hutchison; great-grandchildren, Ethan, Isaac, Emma, Madelyn, Gracelyn, Emmaline and Jackson Hutchison, Tyler, Emily, Jack and Ben Rowden, Avarie and Malcolm Edwards and Brian and Keifer Cripp; brother, Kendall Moseley and wife Lola of Bertrand, Neb.; and sister, Dixie Tellus and husband Chuck of Holbrook, Neb.
Visitation will be held from 9 - 11:00 a.m., followed by the funeral services, Thursday, July 1, in the Vienna United Methodist Church in Vienna with Rev. Karen Alden officiating. Interment will be in the Vienna Public Cemetery.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Vienna Old Jail Museum or the Vienna United Methodist Church.
