OSAGE COUNTY — As part of National Library Week (April 6-12), the Missouri River Regional Library will recognize two volunteers of the year — Kathy Muenks at the Osage County branch in Linn, and Peggy Salmons at the main Library in Jefferson City.

Muenks is a member of the Friends of Osage County Library (FOCL). She spends several hours a week at the branch sorting book donations for the library’s monthly book sales. Muenks also volunteers for all the library’s larger program events, and is responsible for taking care of the FOCL membership cards and newsletter mailings.

Salmons is a Central Missouri Master Gardener, and has been volunteering a substantial number of volunteer hours for over 10 years to maintain the library grounds at 214 Adams in Jefferson City.

An award presentation will be held for Salmons on April 11 at 10 a.m. at Missouri River Regional Library, and for Muenks at 2 p.m. at the Osage County Branch.

Other activities this week as part of National Library Week include a Storytelling Festival in Cole and Osage counties on Wednesday and Thursday, April 9-10. FOCL helped sponsor storytellers for local schools.

Also on Wednesday, the MRRL Bookmobile will visit the Osage County Library from 1-3 p.m. Kids can check books out from the bookmobile and get their picture taken in the driver’s seat.

On Thursday, FOCL will hold its annual meeting at 5:30 p.m. in the Woodland Art Gallery. All FOCL members are invited to attend to see how their money has been spent over the last year to improve the library or sponsor programs for our community. Light refreshments will be served.

The Woodland Art Gallery will be used at 10:30 a.m. on Friday for Storytime with a gardening theme. After reading and dancing, patrons will plant a few things in the community garden and each child will get to plant their own vegetable seeds to take home with them.

At 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, the Osage County Library will host its monthly Family Movie Night and show “Moana 2” in the Woodland Art Gallery. Popcorn and drinks will be served.

The library will also hold “Food for Fines” this week. Each food item brought in for the Good Shepherd Food Pantry will take off $1 in fines on a patron’s cards. Visitors can also get a free replacement library card this week.
