WESTPHALIA — Osage Ambulance District, Westphalia Fire Department, and the Osage County Sheriff’s Office participated in rescuing a man who sustained a traumatic injury after falling approximately 30 feet from a cliff at a conservation access near Westphalia.
“Access to the patient was not possible by land,” said EMS Chief Josh Krull, “requiring use of the Sheriff’s Office shallow water boat, strategically stored at our Osage Ambulance equipment facility behind Base 2.”
Sheriff Mike Bonham and Capt. Travis Shaffer responded. They had just returned from assisting the Cooper County Sheriff’s Office with a missing person on the Lamine River near Otterville. The missing person in Cooper County was located alive.
“The Sheriff’s Office quickly responded,” Krull said, “transporting EMS crews by boat to reach the patient.”
“It was an awesome display of teamwork,” said Captain Shaffer.
“Thanks to the rapid response and excellent teamwork of all agencies involved, the patient was transported in stable condition to a local hospital,” Krull said.
