LINN — Osage County Health Department Administrator Kim Sallin said recent health fairs at Osage Industries and Quaker Window Products were successful.
She and her staff serviced 88 individuals at Osage Industries on Monday. Sallin recorded height, weight, BMI, blood pressure, and wellness labs, which included a complete blood count, kidney and liver functions, cholesterol, hemoglobin A1C, and a prostate test for men over 40.
On Tuesday, blood draws were conducted for more than 100 Quaker employees to perform lab tests.
“We’re pretty excited about local businesses taking advantage of this service,” said Sallin. “If anyone would like to discuss us coming to provide this opportunity to their employees, we’d be happy to talk with them.”
She has also begun drug screening by request.
“We will provide a rapid test in our office,” Sallin explained. “If there is a positive result, the client can request we send a sample to a lab for complete testing.”
Sallin noted the panel tests for 15 different substances but like a breathalyzer, the results are preliminary only and require verification.
A rapid test costs $25, but Sallin is still determining how much a lab will charge for a full test.
Sallin has scheduled a May 2 screening with Ellis Fischel Cancer Center’s mobile mammography van, which offers 2D and 3D scans.
At least 14 patients must sign up for Ellis Fischel to visit Linn. As of press time, five more patients are needed to schedule the event.

Now in the new building at the junction of Hwys. 89 and 50, Sallin said she is working out little things but, overall, is pleased. “We love having our own space to spread out and offer a wide variety of services,” she said.
A Grand Opening Open House and Ribbon Cutting for the new OCHD building is scheduled for Friday, May 19. The Boone Health Mobile Unit will be on hand to offer free skin cancer screenings. Those will probably require an advance appointment for that day.
“We have a lot going on, and we’re excited to expand our services,” said Sallin.
