Chamois defeated South Callaway on Saturday 57-47.
“This was a game that we were fortunate enough to win,” said Coach Klayton Kuschel.
Early in the game the Pirates fell behind 13-9, but rallied in the second quarter and took the lead going into halftime, 22-21.
“We were starting to figure out South Callaway’s defense and began pulling away in the third quarter,” said Klayton, as the Pirates held a 40-33 lead to start the fourth. “We picked up right where we left off and kept pulling away.”
The Bulldogs began fouling Chamois with about 2:30 remaining in the game.
“If we had made a better percentage of our free throws, we would have won by a much larger margin,” said Kuschel.
On the night, Nate Nolte led the Pirates with 22 points while grabbing seven rebounds to go with two assists and a block, as Devin Warren scored 15 points while grabbing three ebounds two assists and a steal, followed by Richard Schaperclaus(9 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists), Eli Deppe (6 points, 15 rebounds, 1 block), Brandon Dodson (5 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals) and Dawson Haslag (2 rebounds, 1 assist).
In the JV game, the Pirates won 43-37.
“This was one of our best games of the season,” said Kuschel. “We had a wide spread of contributors that lead to a good team win. South Callaway had us out-sized but our guardswere not fazed by it and played very aggressively.”
Zain Slusser led Chamois with 12 points as he collected five rebounds and one steal, followed by Mason Lamb (11 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals), Caine Schaben (9 points, 3 assists, 3 steals), Tyler Brandt (6 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals) and Shannon Cowans (5 points, 1 rebound).
