Proud to be an American

a new adventure

I am proud to be an American and I am proud to live in rural Missouri where a significant majority agree with that statement.

Over the weekend, Connie and I attended three 4th of July fireworks celebrations. It was wonderful to see people from 5-years-old to 80 display their patriotism with the colors they wore and the flags they held.

Everyone I saw stood with honor and placed their hand over their heart as they listened to the Star-Spangled Banner sung in Rosebud.

Unfortunately, the far left has been indoctrinating many of our college students against America for many years now. Sadly it’s working.

Last week Campus Reform — a conservative news site and higher-education watchdog — demonstrated this at Georgetown University in Washington D.C. when their reporter Ophelie Jacobson asked young people whether they were “proud” to be an American and if the United States was the greatest country in the world.

Many of the responses echoed this statement: “I think a lot of things about this country are embarrassing, just like…racist history, colonization, and even currently with what’s going on with the cops.”

One woman Jacobson interviewed says she feels “embarrassed to be an American every day.”

Another said the U.S. economy “just cares about money.” Interestingly the college this young lady is attending costs over $57,000 a year to attend. In the interview, she holds a $1,000 phone, a shopping bag and wears, what appears to be, expensive clothes.

Out of everyone Jacobson interviews in the video, no one professed that the United States is the “greatest country in the world,” but, when asked, none could name a better country.

“I feel sorry for those young students,” Lily Tang Williams, an American citizen who immigrated from China, told “Fox & Friends” on Saturday in response to the video. “They remind me of my past, living in communist China for 23 years, and I was indoctrinated to believe everything the government told me and that Chairman Mao [Zedong] told me.”

In a May video from Campus Reform, students at Georgetown University signed a fake petition calling for a ban on Memorial Day. In an interview, a young woman said she thinks Memorial Day “represents a lot of negative aspects of America and highlights something that people shouldn’t necessarily be proud of.”

These are ideas being put in the heads of young college students by the progressive left.

Here are some of the reasons we should all be proud to be Americans.

• U.S. corporations and citizens make more charitable donations than the rest of the world combined.

• Americans corrected its biggest historical sin, slavery, by fighting a war that cost a half-million soldiers their lives.

• The U.S. saved the world from Nazi Germany, the Soviet Union, and other totalitarian regimes.

• America spent billions as part of the Marshall Plan, which transformed a continent ravaged from World War II into thriving, stable European nations.

• A person living in poverty in America has a standard of living that would be considered wealthy in most countries. Most Americans living below the poverty level are well-fed and have cars, TVs, clothing, a roof over their heads, healthcare, and many other items that would be considered luxuries in 3rd World countries.

• No country in the world has as much race and cultural diversity.

• No country in the world is as tolerant of religious and non-religious beliefs. No one is prosecuted for their religious or non-religious beliefs.

• No nation takes in more immigrants, both legal and illegal.

• American laws and its litigation system prevent discrimination based on race, gender, age, religion, disability, and sexual orientation.

• America has true freedom of speech and press, which means we can expose wrongs, debate courses of action, and allow the best ideas to win out over the worst ones over time.

• We have the strongest military by far, yet we don’t use that power to take over other countries.

• The U.S. has a free market system that has led to the world’s highest per-capita income and standard of living.

• Health care accessibility to top physicians, medications, surgeries, technology, and other modern medicine is second to none.

• Most of the greatest medical discoveries and life-changing pharmaceuticals have come from American companies.

• America’s space exploration and contribution to the knowledge of the universe is second to none.

• Our checks and balances system of government prevents tyranny and ensures smooth transitions of power.

• American farmers produce more food than any country on Earth.

• No matter what sin or mistake America has made in the past, we have a system in place to correct those wrongs and constantly improve.

• No matter the circumstances in life, America has more opportunities than any other to become wealthy, change the world and achieve greatness.

I’m proud to be an American.
