Ralph Goans

Ralph Leon Goans, 70, Linn, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2020, at the University of Missouri Hospital and Clinics in Columbia.

He  was born Nov. 17, 1949, to Ralph Lonzo and Maudie Mae (Hall) Goans, in Warrensburg. 

He was united in marriage to Joan Rustemeyer, April 17, 1969,  at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Loose Creek.  

Ralph was employed at Cargill in California, International Shoe Company, McGraw-Edison Manufacturing and Laidlaw Waste Systems in Jefferson City where he started on a trash route and was later promoted into a management position from which he retired after 21 years of employment. After retirement, Ralph worked part time at Dollar General in Jefferson City for ten years.

He enjoyed working hard at his jobs and on the family farm and in his younger years, cutting wood and putting up hay.  Ralph also enjoyed hunting and fishing, watching old westerns, history and sci-fi shows, listening to country music and spending time playing solitaire on the computer.  He was a member of St. George Catholic Church in Linn. Ralph’s greatest joy came from spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by birth parents, Ralph and Maudie; stepmother, Frances Goans; stepfather, John Floyd; sister, Rosia Siebert; and brother, Bobby Goans.

Ralph is survived by spouse of 51 years, Joan; son, Joseph Goans and wife Renee; daughters, Jennifer Tyree and husband Bruce and Rosa Schaefer and husband Rod, all of Linn; grandchildren, Lindsey, Kylie, Jessica, Justine, Emma and Gracie, all of  Linn and Christy Schaefer of Jefferson City; sister, Deena  Underwood and husband Elvin of Sweet Springs; brother, Richard Goans of California; and many nieces and nephews.  

A private family Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, Sept. 14, at St. George Catholic Church in Linn with Rev. I. C. Medina officiating.  Interment was in the St. George Parish Cemetery in Linn.

Memorial contributions suggested to the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association or to St. George Catholic Church in Linn.
