Elizabeth Hoffman Reinkemeyer, of Linn, a 2000 graduate of St. George, was recognized as the St. George School recipient of the National Catholic Education Association (NCEA) Distinguished Graduate Award for 2021 as part of Catholic Schools Week.
Reinkemeyer, a second-grade teacher at St. George School, was nominated for this award due to her service and dedication to the school and parish.
“Liz's dedication to Catholic education is reflected in her commitment to passing our Catholic faith down to all children,” said St. George Principal Lisa Grellner. “Liz has a love for the sacraments that she instills in all of her students. Second grade is a big year for students as they receive both reconciliation and Holy Communion for the first time. Liz never lets her students forget that Jesus Christ is really and truly present in the Eucharist — Body, Blood, and Divinity. Liz not only teaches the importance of the sacraments, but she models this in her daily life.”
All teachers have struggled during this time of shut-downs and virtual learning, ensuring that their students have continued to learn and grow not only academically but spiritually as well.
“The people around her can testify that Liz’s faith during these times has not only inspired students but adults as well,” said Grellner. “This is another example of building the body of Christ as well as her dedication to St. George students.”
While at St. George, Reinkemeyer participated in sports and other school-sponsored activities. Upon completion of high school at Linn R-2, Reinkemeyer obtained her bachelor's degree in education at Lincoln University. She is the daughter of Ron and Veronica Hoffman. Veronica was the recipient of this award in 2017. Liz is married to Sam Reinkemeyer, and they are the proud parents of Charlie, Maggie, and Daniel.
The NCEA Distinguished Graduate Award honors graduates of Catholic schools who have made a contribution to American life and /or the Catholic church.
“This award is being given to a well-deserving member of our parish,” said Grellner.
