Fatima High School senior Jenna Reinkemeyer was named the Osage County Anti-Drug Community Action Team (OC-ADCAT) Student of the Month for January. She said the honor came as a surprise, but said living a drug-free lifestyle makes sense to her.

“To me, it’s a common sense kind of thing,” said Reinkemeyer, who was nominated for the award by Breylee Evers, Kary Brunnert and Matt Rose.

From academics to athletics, her teachers believe Reinkemeyer has it all.

“She is a fantastic student and works very hard in class,” said Rose. “She’s very diligent and kind. I have always been impressed with her scholarship.”

Evers agreed, saying that Reinkemeyer is focused. “On the volleyball court, Jenna is an example of poise and confidence,” she added. “She is an amazing athlete, but very humble, and always ready to support her teammates in good times and bad.”

Reinkemeyer said there isn’t much peer pressure to involve herself with drugs and alcohol, but said what little there is doesn’t matter. “I simply do not pay attention to peer pressure by keeping myself occupied with work and other activities,” she said.

It’s an impressive list. Reinkemeyer is the PR coordinator for Students Against Destructive Decisions, historian of the FBLA, and co-president of Random Acts of Kindness. She also plays volleyball, and works at Westphalia Hills Nursing Home, Autumn Ridge Living Center and Westphalia Pizza.

Reinkemeyer credits her parents, Dale and Mary Kay Reinkemeyer, for setting a good example of a healthy lifestyle, and her teachers for their efforts over the years.

“They constantly teach me to make the right decision, which is engraved in my mind,” Reinkemeyer said. “I think living a healthy lifestyle is important.”

Reinkemeyer does her best to lead by example to accomplish tasks, which was praised by her teachers.

“Jenna is very dedicated to everything she does, and she’s a great role model,” said Brunnert. “She is inclusive of others, and very active both at school and in the community.”

Principal Sharyl Kelsch said Reinkemeyer is very deserving of the award. “Jenna is a great student,” Kelsch said. “She always has a smile on her face. She is a great team player and willing to do whatever is asked of her.”

Reinkemeyer, who has a GPA of 3.932, plans to pursue a degree in nursing at the University of Missouri.

She will be eligible for an OC-ADCAT scholarship, which is awarded at the end of the school year.

“I am so excited to showcase our seniors that have chosen to live drug and alcohol free,” said OC-ADCAT Education Committee Chairperson Charlotte Bellsmith. “I know this is not an easy thing to do. The pressure on our teens to drink while still underage is still pretty severe.”
