LINN    Chamois artist Fred Schollmeyer’s artwork is being featured until March 28 in an art exhibit entitled “Acrylic Realism” in the Osage County Library’s Woodland Art Gallery, with a reception in his honor scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 11 from noon to 1:30 p.m.

Schollmeyer has been painting professionally for 30 years. He uses acrylic paint and airbrush to produce his finished artwork in a Photorealistic style. Schollmeyer’s subject matter varies greatly, from vintage toys to local Missouri landscapes. He feels that the painting process itself is the most important aspect of being an artist, adding the process is a relaxing and personal experience that is very self-rewarding.

Schollmeyer has been interested in the arts since childhood. He was an art teacher for 30 years and always found time to produce art during that period. Over time, his students taught him the importance of art in their lives and his.

Schollmeyer’s work has been featured in over 20 national art exhibits. Since 2008, nine of his paintings have been featured in the prestigious Watercolor USA Exhibit in Springfield.

His art has been included in several national publications, including North Light’s “AcrylicWorks” series. In 2020, his book, “Photorealism in the Heartland: The Acrylic Paintings of Fred Schollmeyer,” was published. The online literary review site “Book Authority” chose it as one of the best acrylic painting books of the year.

Since the mid-1990s, Schollmeyer has displayed his work at numerous art fairs throughout the Midwest. In 2012, he became a member of the “Daily Painters” group, showing and selling his work online at dailypaintworks.com.

Schollmeyer is a signature member of the Watercolor Honor Society and the Missouri Watercolor Society, as well as a member of the Best of Missouri Hands, the Columbia Art League, Arts Rolla, and the Jefferson City Art Club.

His work can be found in collections throughout the USA and Europe.
