Fatima’s two Lady Comets competed at districts last Friday and Saturday at North Point High School in Wentzville.
Skyla Schroeder had a tournament to remember as she earned a state berth.
She entered as the second seed in a bracket that included several top-ranked girls in the state and one of the more loaded brackets at the weight between the four districts. Schroeder won all of her matches, capping a first-place finish with a pin over the number-one seed, Payton Weese, from Marceline.
“Skyla just took care of business,” said Coach Kurt Strope. “I was proud to see her make it to state and make it over the hump after being one match away the last two years.”
Heidi Struemph began with a loss before beating a girl by pin from Kirksville. She then had a tough loss to her North Point opponent, which knocked her out of the tournament.
“Heidi had a very good freshman campaign, considering this was her first year of wrestling,” said Strope. “She made big strides throughout the year and continued to get better. I can’t wait to see where she can get to next season.”
The boys compete in districts this weekend at Versailles.
