Emily (Koelling) Sommerer, 28, is running for the mayor’s position at Meta and said while there have been great ideas to improve the town and keep everything functioning smoothly, she believes there are many opportunities brought to the table and would love to be able to help see the community grow.

“Improvements can be made by first creating a plan to implement what is needed and to gain input from many different aspects of the project,” said Sommerer. “I have found many resources in which grants are produced to help out different communities. Help and input from others can create a community in which improvements can be made.”

Sommerer, in her first effort to obtain a public office, said she would use the experience that comes from leadership roles obtained as an educator. “I also obtained leadership roles in my hometown that required decisions to be made and continuous monitoring of progress,” she added.

If elected, Sommerer said she will bring new ideas and opportunities to the table. “I would be willing to listen to community members in what they feel needs to happen to improve the community,” she said.

Emily and her husband of nearly five years, Chance, have a son who is almost 2. They have lived in Meta for 2.5 years.
