Mrs. Theodora H. “Teddy” Cortvrient, 95, Jefferson City, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Oct.18, 2022, at River City Nursing Facility.

She was born  March 27, 1927, to the late Theodore and Caroline “Carrie” (Grothoff) Stegeman in Taos.

A lifelong resident of the central Missouri area, she began working  at Tweedie Shoe Factory at an early age due to World War II. After the war, Teddy met the love of her life, Edward “Eddie” Cortvrient during her time at Tweedie Shoe Factory because she had taken his job while he was serving our country.

She and Eddie were married May 6, 1950, at Immaculate Conception Church in Jefferson City.

Teddy continued to work at Tweedie Shoe Factory for over 20 years until 1967, when she began her employment with Chesebrough Ponds as a machine operator in the glass packaging until her retirement in 1987 when she  retired to care for Eddie while his health began to struggle.

Teddy was a longtime member of Immaculate Conception Church and after Eddie’s passing, she became a member of St. Francis Xavier in Taos.

She was talented at sewing, cross stitch and embroidery and loved her daily word search puzzles. Teddy was an avid reader and enjoyed the romance novels of Nora Roberts and Danielle Steele.

Time with family was always her greatest joy and some of Teddy’s favorite memories were family gatherings at their cabin on the Gasconade River  where she looked forward to quiet times on the porch and fishing with family. She also used her talents to make quilts for many family members that will continue to be a treasure to them.

Teddy will be remembered for her kindness that resonated with others and made her a favorite to many.

She was preceded in death by loving husband of 48 years, Eddie; parents, Theodore and Caroline; son-in-law, Virgil Prenger; sister, Madaline Martin; brothers, Albert Stegeman and wife Virginia, Howard Stegeman and wife Pauline, Leroy Stegeman and wife Helen and James Stegeman and wife Irene; and brother-in-law, David Eiken.
