“Martha, do you hear yourself?”
With that response, Senator and Republican Vice-Presidential candidate J.D. Vance established a political campaign comment that will be around for decades.
Vance was being interviewed Sunday morning by Martha Raddatz, an ABC News anchor, who asked him if he supported President Trump’s remarks about the invasion and takeover of apartment buildings in Aurora, Colo., remarks that the city’s Republican mayor claimed were grossly exaggerated, Raddatz added.
Vance then responded that the mayor’s comments showed there was “an element of truth” to what Trump said and that Trump had been on the ground there in Aurora talking to residents and that they were terrified by the gangs.
“Sen. Vance, I’m going to stop you because I know exactly what happened. The incidents were limited to a handful of apartment complexes.”
At that point I’m sure Raddatz did not realize she had made Vance a hero. She did not hear herself. She didn’t realize her rudeness (“I’m going to stop you”), nor her arrogance (“because I know exactly what happened”).
Talk about a slap-down: “Martha, do you hear yourself? Only a handful of apartment complexes in America were taken over by Venezuelan gangs, and Donald Trump is the problem and not Kamala Harris’s open border?”
After thinking about what Vance said, I realized I didn’t know much about what was taking place at those apartments, so I got on the internet and found out some things that I think you might find interesting.
• There are three apartment complexes involved. They are located in an area that does not appear to be horribly run down. None of the apartment interiors were shown. We’re talking about quite a few units. One complex had 54 apartments.
• The gang activity has been alleged to have been going on since late 2023.
• A law firm was hired to conduct an investigation of what was going on. That report, which was released in August, differs considerably from what Raddatz and the mayor would have you believe. The law firm was hired by the financial institution that loaned the money for the owners to buy the apartments. This report was examined in length in a news story developed by CBS Colorado — A CBS News station located in Denver. The story by the TV station in my opinion was fair. Something was going on and probably still is.
• According to USA Today, Homeland Security has confirmed that the men seen in the gang member videos were in fact members of the notorious Venezuelan gang, Tren De Aragua.
With her behavior in this, Raddatz ratted on our entire media. It’s much worse — in the opinion of most of our media folks — for Trump to exaggerate about something than for Harris, Biden and most Democrats to openly lie about our borders being “secure.”
