Thomas “Tom” M. Gragert, 76, Meta, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2021, at his home.
He was born Feb. 20, 1945, to the late Herbert and Virginia (Reike) Gragert in Enid, Okla.
He was united in marriage to Nancy Ann Hendricks May 12, 1973 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Meta.
Tom honorably served his country in the U. S. Army and was a member of the Jefferson City American Legion Post 5. He was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Meta.
Tom enjoyed watching westerns, especially featuring John Wayne, writing poems and short stories and computer technology, in which he took great pride helping others learn and troubleshoot. He always had a smile, a kind word, and a laugh to share with loved ones and strangers alike. Tom never hesitated to help someone whether it be to offer his time, energy or money. He was silly in all the best ways, and made sure to let his family know that he loved them, and his daughter know how proud she made him.
Tom was preceded in death by parents, Herbert and Virginia; son, Steven John Gragert; sister, Julie; and infant sister, Carolyn.
He is survived by wife, Nancy; daughter, Julie Gragert and husband Terry Yates of Jefferson City; sister; Sherry Walters and husband Buck of Kansas; brother-in-law, Duane Smith; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Surface, Lorene Hagenhoff and Gertie and Donna Hendricks; and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., (today) Wednesday, Dec. 29 followed by a Mass of Christian burial at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Meta with Fr. Leonard Mukiibi officiating. Interment with military honors will be in St. Cecilia Cemetery.
Memorial contributions suggested to the Catholic Charities Adoption or Jefferson City American Legion Post 5.
