Two Osage County businesses cited in Operation “NO SALE”

OSAGE COUNTY — Sheriff Michael Bonham announced the results of Operation “NO SALE,” a joint enforcement effort conducted on Sept. 29 by the Osage County Sheriff’s Office and the Missouri Department of Alcohol and Tobacco Control.

T&L Zip Stop in Freeburg and El Carnaval Mexican Restaurant in Linn made sales to undercover operatives without checking identifications. Both businesses were cited.

“This is the fourth consecutive year of Operation ‘NO SALE,’ and once again, deputies and Missouri ATC agents did an outstanding job,” said Sheriff Mike Bonham. “We are proud to report that this year only two violations were found across the entire county. That speaks volumes to the commitment of our local businesses in protecting our youth.”

Sheriff Bonham also extended his appreciation to Major Travis Shaffer for leading and coordinating the operation. “I want to congratulate Major Shaffer on executing Operation ‘NO SALE’ with professionalism and efficiency,” he said. “His leadership played a key role in ensuring its continued success.”

The annual operation is designed to test local compliance by attempting underage alcohol purchases, identifying businesses that fail to follow the law while serving as a reminder of the responsibility local retailers carry in keeping alcohol out of the hands of underage individuals.

Businesses following the law during the compliance checks were Eagle Stop in Freeburg, Westphalia, and Linn; Joe’s Market in Westphalia, and at Linn were Casey’s, Breaktime, Dave’s Pizza, Eagle Stop, Casper’s  66, and Osage View.

Sheriff Bonham emphasized the importance of these operations, noting that continued cooperation between law enforcement, state regulators, and business owners helps keep Osage County safe.

“Our goal is compliance, not citations,” Sheriff Bonham said. “We want to thank the businesses that passed for their vigilance, and remind everyone that even one illegal sale can have serious consequences for our young people and our community.”

The Sheriff’s Office will continue to partner with the Missouri Department of Alcohol and Tobacco Control in future operations to ensure the safety of Osage County’s youth.

“We appreciate the support of the Osage County community as we work together to keep our county a safe and healthy place to live,” Bonham added.
