VFW launches personalized brick campaign

As Flag Day approaches June 14, members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4756 in Linn are disappointed that due to ongoing concerns regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, the annual porkburger and bake sale scheduled for June 12 will not take place.

This fall marks the 75th anniversary of the VFW post’s founding in Linn, and the sale of the original building was a difficult occurrence.

“It has been sad lately to move from the old home but very exciting to move into the new location,” said VFW Auxiliary Secretary Valora Budnik. “We appreciate all who assisted with the move and upgrading the new home to be a place to honor the veterans as well as a place the public can gather. This upgrading would not have happened without many businesses, other organizations, and individuals assisting financially as well as hard work and many hours of labor of love.”

Some of the improvements to the building of the new location at the corner of 12th and Adams streets include new HVAC systems, new upper and lower-level windows, water heater, and lighting, as well as a new LP six-burner range, refrigerator, upright freezer, island and additional cabinet space.

Lower-level restrooms received an upgrade, and a fresh paint job. The handicap entrance ramp with parking at the back door upper level and the addition of the parking lower level also took place.

“We are still striving to improve a few more areas of the building,” said Budnik.

Because the VFW will not be able to hold its traditional fundraiser, members have come up with another way to continue these improvements.

“We would like to honor our veterans, individuals, organizations and businesses by offering to create a ‘Honor Walkway’ of personalized bricks which will be placed in the area along the front and side of our new home at street level,” said Budnik, who will handle details concerning brick size, personalization and price.

Anyone interested may call Budnik at 573-897-2403 and leave a message.
