VFW personalized brick campaign completed

A Project launched in June by members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4756 in Linn came to fruition last week with the laying of 102 engraved and some blank bricks covering 15 feet along the east wall of the VFW Hall.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the annual porkburger and bake sale were not held, so the VFW used this approach as a fundraiser for a variety of needs at the new building.
“We are pleased to honor our veterans, individuals, organizations, and businesses with the ‘Honor Walkway’ of personalized bricks which were placed in the area along the side of our new home at street level,” said VFW Auxiliary Treasurer Valora Budnik.
Mike Jacquin was the main worker preparing the area Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, and installing the bricks on Saturday, with help from Gene Weinkein, Dan Schaefer, Les Budnik, Alice Jacquin, and Valora Budnik. Two others helping but not on-site were Judy Hicks and Rhonda Luck.
Some of the improvements to the building of the new location at the corner of 12th and Adams streets include new HVAC systems, new upper and lower-level windows, water heater, and lighting, as well as a new LP six-burner range, refrigerator, upright freezer, island, and additional cabinet space.
Lower-level restrooms received an upgrade and a fresh paint job. The handicap entrance ramp with parking at the back door upper level and the addition of the parking lower level also took place.
“We are still striving to improve a few more areas of the building,” said Budnik, who handled details concerning brick size, personalization, and price.
Bricks may still be purchased, Budnik said, noting the hope is to completely fill in the east side of the building. Anyone interested may call Budnik at 573-897-2403 and leave a message.
