Virgil Warren Jennings, 97, Granite City, Ill., formerly of Dixon, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2021, in Alton Memorial Hospital, Alton, Ill.
He was born Nov. 25, 1923, to Emmett William and Viola (Null) Jennings, in Granite City, Ill.
He was united in marriage to Trudy Ann Carey Nov. 6, 1982, in Edwardsville, Ill.
Virgil, at an early age, moved with his family from Granite City, Ill., to Dixon, the hometown of his parents. He was raised on the family farm near Dixon and was a graduate of the Waynesville High School.
During World War II, he returned to Granite City, Ill., and worked at the U.S. Army Depot. Virgil was later employed at Albrecht-Hamlin Chevrolet, Wood River, Ill., for 38 years, retiring in 1988. He was a member of Donnellson Lodge No. 255, A.F. & A.M., Donnellson, Ill.; Scottish Rite Masonic Bodies, Valley of Southern Illinois, Belleville, Ill.; and Ainad Shriners of Southern Illinois, East St. Louis, Ill..
He was preceded in death by parents Emmett and Viola; son Ronald Jennings; brothers Clarence Jennings and William “Bill” Jennings; daughter-in-law Judy Jennings; son-in-law Joe Rulo; and great-granddaughter.
He is survived by wife Trudy of their home in Granite City, Ill.; daughter Brenda Rulo of Taylorville, Ill.; sons Donald Jennings of East Alton, Ill., and Bret (Yvonne) Jennings of the state of Florida; eight grandchdildren and six great-grandchildren.
A graveside funeral service will be held Monday, Oct.4, at 1 p.m., in Dixon Cemetery, Dixon, with his daughter Brenda Rulo, officiating.
