WESTPHALIA — Westphalia aldermen discussed the progress being made on the City Hall remodel at their Dec. 17 meeting.
“Things are moving along quickly,” said Mayor Tammy Massman. “Things are going wonderfully, actually.”
She added that the electrical and HVAC work was completed, and the walls had been studded out. The project is currently waiting on insulation.
Aldermen approved the bid from Muenks Insurance Insulation for $3,768 by email last month.
“Muenks Insulation is hoping to get the walls done so we can finish up the drywall,” Massman said.
She noted that the flooring was going to have to be replaced and that the contractor recommended floating flooring. Aldermen agreed to keep the wall color white with a light splatter on the drywall and the trim, while the doors will have a light stain color to match the floor in a wood tone.
Massman said she picked out basic lighting with cam lights around the perimeter and a light-fan combination in the middle of the room.
Even though the remodel will not be completed by the January meeting, Massman is hoping to have the meeting back in City Hall.
“Things are moving a lot quicker than we had thought,” Massman added.
In other business, Aaron Lachowicz of Mid Mo Operations reported that the manhole inspections were 99% complete, with only three more to be found. Hide added that the manhole near the retirement center would need to be replaced within the next two or three years.
“The sulfites are eating away at the concrete pretty bad,” Lachowicz said. “It’s still structurally sound, but it’s getting thinner every year.”
Overall, the wastewater plant and the lift stations are running well. Lachowicz also reported that the new system and upgrades to the wastewater system have been working without any problems.
Lachowicz said that year-end reporting is due by Jan. 28 and the city’s wastewater permit expires in December 2025. He noted that Mid Mo Operations would be working to complete both in a timely manner.
