William W. Bockting, 80, Hermann, passed away Thursday, Jan. 28, 2021 at University of Missouri Medical Center in Columbia.

He was born March 27, 1940, to the late William C. and Evelyn C. (Layne) Bockting in Chamois.

He was united in marriage to Betty A. (Witte) Oct. 29, 1988.

Bill proudly served in the U.S. Army as a diesel engine mechanic with the 523rd Engineer Company (Redstone) in Neckarsulm, Germany. He was the owner of Bockting Farm Equipment for 35 years where he did business across the Midwest until his retirement. He also served as past president of Morrison Lion’s Club, school board president for Chamois R-1 School and was a former member of the Knights of Columbus.

During Bill and Betty’s 32 years of marriage, they loved and enjoyed everyone in their blended family. Bill’s legacy includes six sons and 13 grandchildren. His childhood was spent hunting, fishing, and being the big brother to eight younger siblings.

Bill and Betty enjoyed traveling together with family and friends. To all who knew him, he was most famous for his passion for fishing, especially at Mark Twain Lake. Bill made one-of-a-kind fruit salads and sugar cookies, too. He always had a provider’s heart and never stopped looking for ways to take care of his family and loved ones. Bill leaves this life having made good friends and good memories with so many who loved him. Cheers to Bill with a glass of Vignoles or a Seagram’s V.O. You are so missed already.

He is preceded in death by parents, William and Evelyn; brother, Darrell; and sister Ruth Ann.

Bill is survived by wife Betty; sons, Kevin (Kathy) Bockting and wife Kathy of Chamois; Kent Bockting and wife Lori of Morrison; Kirk Bockting and friend Shari Bullock of Chamois; Kelly Bockting and wife Melissa of Dillon, Mont.; Kris Bockting and wife Lori of Columbia; and Mark Bockting of Hannibal; 13 grandchildren; brothers, Allen Bockting of San Dimas, Calif.; David Bockting of New Haven; Steve Bockting of Hermann; sisters, Nancy Dillahunt of Morrison and Janet Bartok of Sedalia; and brother, Bob Schowengerdt of Morrison.
