Wood charged with drug possession

Megan C. Wood, 32, of Chamois, was charged last week with two counts of possession of a controlled substance except 35 grams or less of marijuana/synthetic cannabinoid, possession of 10 grams or less marijuana/synthetic cannabinoid (prior drug offense), and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia (prior drug offense) following a report of a suspicious vehicle near Frankenstein.
Deputy Richard Jarvis on Monday, April 26 at about 6:15 p.m., was dispatched to the area of CR 424 and 427, and while en route, a second call came into dispatch referencing the same vehicle as driving carelessly and imprudently on CR 424, and was reportedly “all over the road and traveling very slowly.”
While searching for the vehicle, Jarvis observed tire tracks crossing back and forth from the right-hand side of the road to the left-hand side of the road. He found the unoccupied car parked in the creek on the left side of the county road.
As he approached the passenger side of the vehicle, registered to Ty McMaster, Jarvis in his probable cause statement noted he saw a clear glass smoking device with a burnt residue, and a clear plastic baggie containing a white crystalline substance in plain view on the passenger seat. He believed this to be methamphetamine and a glass smoking device that is commonly used in the process of smoking meth. Due to having previous dealings with McMaster, Jarvis knew him to be associated with narcotics.
Cpt. Travis Shaffer arrived on the scene and was advised of the situation. Shortly thereafter, McMaster and Wood approached the vehicle from further down the creek.
McMaster confirmed it was his car and that he had been driving.
When asked for their ID, McMaster and Wood went to the car. While Jarvis was positioned near the passenger side door, he watched as Wood reached into the open passenger-side door window, and attempt to hide the narcotics and paraphernalia that were in plain view as she was obtaining her I.D. from her purse.
Jarvis told them that he had already seen the narcotics. Wood nodded her head in agreement. After advising McMaster and Wood that he had seen Wood attempt to tamper with evidence, Wood said, “Yeah, I did, I did. It’s mine,”Jarvis wrote in his PC statement.
At this time, Wood approached the deputy, turned around, and put her hands behind her back, and she was placed under arrest without incident.
McMaster was detained pending further investigation, and a probable-cause search of the vehicle was conducted.
In addition to the materials Jarvis had already seen, he found a clear glass smoking device containing a burnt residue, a plastic baggie containing 5.2 grams of a white crystalline substance that field-tested positive for methamphetamine, another baggie containing one gram of a white crystalline substance, a clear piece of cellophane containing .7 grams of a green leafy substance that field-tested positive for marijuana, and a small clear glass container containing a yellow wax substance.
Wood was transported to the Osage County Detention Center and is being held without bond.
McMaster was released at the scene.
