CHAMOIS — The Chamois Board of Aldermen spent two recent special meetings untangling practical problems ranging from alley vacations and sidewalk authority questions to faulty water meters and unpaid utility bills.
During a May 7 meeting, aldermen discussed whether an alley behind Jerry’s Stop & Go could legally be vacated to accommodate the current building, due to a building addition and driveway approach, while also debating whether approval from Missouri Department of Transportation would be needed for sidewalk modifications along Main Street.
At the board’s May 13 meeting, members approved $167 in insurance coverage for the Jerry Berry Memorial Day cemetery ceremony and discussed a long-running residential water leak issue that officials said has contributed to significant water loss. Aldermen also voted to install a new curb meter at the residence after repeated problems obtaining accurate readings from a basement meter.
The lighter moment of the evening came after a discussion about the ongoing water issues, when Alderman Mercedes Durham joked she was “on that like a camel on a sugar cone.”
