“Everything is coming together,” said Chamois Day Committee Chair Rhonda Mitchem. “I have had some awesome volunteer help in pulling it all together. We are honoring our past and celebrating our future with lots of family fun for all ages.”
Opening ceremonies will begin at 10 a.m. on the main stage and include a welcome from the mayor, the National Anthem, Pledge of Allegiance, and Chamois R-1 PTO Parade.
Strategic Sounds will provide main-stage entertainment from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Inflatables will open at 11 a.m. at Riverside Park, with a $10 wristband providing access to a bounce house, obstacle course, slides, and Wiggle Cars. Mitchem said the fire department also plans to help keep participants cool with water.
Competition sign-ups begin at 11 a.m. at Dizzy’s Bar for the scavenger hunt, cornhole tournament, and washer tournament. Competitions begin at noon, with the scavenger hunt based at Dizzy’s Bar and the washer and cornhole tournaments at C-Town Storage. The scavenger hunt offers a $100 grand prize, with proceeds benefiting Chamois Community in Action.
The Mr./Miss Chamois Day competition will be held on the main stage from 11:30 a.m. to noon.
Also at Riverside Park, participants can take a swing during Whack-A-Car from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for $3 each or three swings for $5. A cake walk will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Chamois Lions Building at Riverside Park, with turns costing $1 each.
At 2 p.m., members of the Chamois and Morrison fire departments will square off in the Fire Station Showdown on Main Street.
PTO parade awards will be presented on the stage from 3:30 to 4 p.m., followed by the raffle drawing at 4 at the raffle booth next to Heritage Community Bank. The booth will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
A classic car show will be held in the Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic church parking lot.
The Town Museum will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., with free tours and donations accepted. The Rost Family Singers will provide music, and visitors can also enjoy a local author book sale, honey ice cream in various flavors and a patriotic flag display.
Books available will include George Kliethermes’ “History of Chamois,” Michael J. Nolte’s “Wonder-Filled Weddings” and Susan Sundermeyer’s “Farmhouses,” along with a children’s book recognizing Jerry Berry.
A video presentation is also planned in the Catholic hall, and the Historic Townley House will be open for tours.
Hayrides will make numerous stops throughout town, and visitors may park at Riverside Park and ride a tractor uptown to the festivities.
Food will be available throughout Chamois. North of the railroad tracks, the Masonic Lodge will serve brats, hot dogs, sauerkraut, chili and kettle corn.
Beginning at noon at Riverside Park, the City of Chamois will offer pork burgers, hot dogs, Gatorade, water and granola bars.
