CHAMOIS — Members of Chamois Fire Protection District did a controlled small structure burn on the evening of April 23, 2024. “This is a training exercise and assistance in trying to clean up parts of town,” Chief Sean Hackmann posted on Facebook prior to the event. He also asked spectators to remain a safe distance away and to keep children away from the area being utilized for the exercise. Personnel practiced preserving surrounding structures, preventing fire or heat spread, and scene safety, in addition to firefighting techniques. “Thanks to our volunteers for helping and learning,” said Hackmann, who is always quick to express gratitude and appreciation for the volunteers who miss work, lose sleep, and give up time with family and friends to help keep their community safe.
