Cotton, Schollmeyer medal to lead Pirates at Owensville

Brayden Cotton and Carly Schollmeyer delivered medal performances to lead Chamois at the Owensville Invitational on Friday.

Cotton captured the Pirates’ lone championship with a first-place finish in the shot put (45-3) and added a fifth-place medal in discus (115-1). Schollmeyer earned a fourth-place medal in the 3200-meter run (15:19.19), giving Chamois three total medals on the day.

Coach John Leach said the meet included an early delay but produced strong effort across the roster. “I am proud of all of the runners and throwers,” Leach said, adding the  team continues to push toward postseason marks. “We are still working on improving our events to get out of district. We have a few meets left to get there.”

At the Russellville Invitational on April 11, Cotton earned two medals, one for a runner-up finish in shot put (44-3), the other after a fourth-place finish in discus (114-9).

Emma Mehmert finished third in the 800-meter run (3:06.53), while Schollmeyer added a fifth-place medal in the 3200-meter run (15:19.48), and Savanah Sieg placed sixth in discus (87-10) to round out the Pirates’ medalists.

Coach Leach said weather again played a role but the team continues trending upward. He noted the team is showing progress as districts approach.

“We need to continue to improve to be able to get out of district in our events,” Leach said.

In JH action last Monday, Jaelyn Thoenen ran a personal-best time of 1:17.49 for eighth-place in the 400m dash. She also finished 18th in both the 200m dash (PR, 34.83), and the 100m dash (16.89).
