Fatima works through challenging week against Osage, Battle

Fatima volleyball faced a challenging week against tough competition, taking on Osage and Battle as the Lady Comets continued working toward greater consistency heading into the latter part of the season.

Varsity coach Ellie Crede said the results were not what Fatima wanted, but both matches provided opportunities for the Lady Comets to identify areas that still need work.

“While the results weren’t what we hoped for, these matches provided valuable opportunities for growth,” Crede said.

Communication, composure in high-pressure situations, and consistency remain areas of emphasis for Fatima.

“We continue to focus on improving our communication, staying composed in high-pressure situations, and building consistency as a team,” Crede said. “Every match is a chance to learn, and we will continue working hard and finding ways to improve as we move forward.”

Individual varsity statistics were unavailable for the two matches because of a Hudl glitch.

Fatima’s JV team had a strong week against the same opponents, sweeping both matches.

The Lady Comets defeated Battle 25-13, 25-21, finishing with 18 kills, 10 aces, two blocks, 53 digs, and 16 assists.

Fatima also swept Osage 25-13, 25-19. The Lady Comets recorded 18 kills, five aces, six blocks, 62 digs, and 18 assists.

Fatima’s C team also completed a 2-0 week, beginning with a 25-14, 25-17 victory over Osage.

Kinlee Perkins recorded five kills, two aces, and two digs, while Brooklynn Otto finished with three aces, two kills, eight assists, and six digs. Kaylee Muenks added three aces, one assist, and six digs, while Camille Dickneite had three kills and four digs.

“I challenged the girls to pick up where we left off on Saturday, and for the most part they did that,” said C-team coach Greg Wingrath. “We still need to work on not losing focus when we get a lead, but it’s getting better.”

Wingrath said he has also seen progress in the way the group works together.

“It’s really nice to see them coming together as a team as the season winds down,” Wingrath said.

Fatima followed with a 25-8, 25-22 sweep of Battle.

Dickneite led the attack with 10 kills while adding an ace and nine digs. Otto recorded four aces, two kills, 13 assists, and four digs, while Chloe Brune added an ace, four kills, one assist, and four digs.

Wingrath was pleased with the C team’s execution and effort in the opening set before making a small lineup change and moving to a 6-2 offense in the second.

“I was pretty happy with our execution and effort in the first set,” Wingrath said.

The Lady Comets struggled for a stretch after the change, but Wingrath said he did not believe the adjustment itself caused the problem.

“I don’t think that had anything to do with that match, and the girls just said, ‘No, we’re just not playing well,’” Wingrath said.
