David Horvath, 25, of Linn, will be traveling to Cairo, Egypt, to participate in the 11th World Para Powerlifting Championships from Oct. 9-18.

The World Para Powerlifting Organization (WPPO) is hosting the event.  This is the first World Championships to be held in Africa and features a Rookie and Next Gen event, followed by the Elite Championships, with 542 athletes attending from 71 countries, leading up to the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games.

Horvath, a 2019 graduate of Linn High School, began his powerlifting training competing in various competitions and is now a member of the USA para-powerlifting team led by High Performance Coach Mary Hodge.

In July 2022, he competed in the Americas Open Championships at St. Louis. Horvath placed fifth in the 59 kg. weight class category in the open division and received a silver medal in his weight class for the Combined Lift category. He participated in the 2023 ParaPan American Games hosted by Santiago, Chile, in November 2023. Several coaches and teammates have noted Horvath’s commitment to the sport and believe he is one of the up-and-coming power-lifters and has a promising outlook moving toward the 2028 L.A. Paralympic Games.

Horvath will be competing in the Elite Championships at the 59 kg. weight class category on Oct. 12th while in Cairo.
