Linn ran away from Iberia on the road last week in a 70-42 win.
“We really did a good job taking care of the basketball offensively,” said Coach Caleb Thomas, as the team counted 19 assists on 26 made FGs. “We busted out of some shooting slumps from behind the arc, too.”
The Lady Cats converted nine three-point attempts and went 9-20 from the line while shooting 38.8% overall.
After the first quarter, Linn held a slim lead at 13-11, turning up the heat in the second, outscoring Iberia 21-12 for a 34-23 halftime lead.
With another 10-point edge coming in the third, Linn pushed the game out of reach.
Nicole Grellner led the team with 24 points, including a 5-7 night from long range, Carley Brandt (4-6 FT) added 12, and Paige Senevey (2-4 FT) put in 10, followed by Heslie Higginbotham (9), Ali Russell (6 on 2 treys), Jorja Kempker (6 on 2 treys), and Kenzy Hackmann (3). Hackmann had a team-high six assists, followed by Higginbotham (4), Kempker (3), Senevey and Russell (2 each), and Grellner (1).
Senevey’s 12 rebounds led the team as Higginbotham snagged 10, Brandt had six, and Russell collected four.
Defensively, the Lady Cats scored 30 points off turnovers and generated 14 second-chance points. “We got back to doing the things we do really well, limiting interior scoring and second-chance opportunities with our ability to rebound,” said Thomas.
Senevey powered the defense with four blocks and two steals, as Hackmann posted five steals, followed by Brandt (4), and Grellner (1).
