Linn won the first of a double-header at Hallsville on Saturday and tied the second game, after defeating St. James on Thursday and losing to Owensville on Monday.

In Saturday’s opener, the Wildcats scored early and often in a 12-5 win over the Indians.

Linn wasted no time, scoring a run in the top of the first after Jax Kubiak (3-3, 2 doubles, 4 RBI) and Peyten Peters (3-4, RBI) each singled. Two batters later, with two outs, Kubiak scored on an error.

Aaron Starke drew a walk but was stranded.

The onslaught began in earnest in the second after Joe Brandt reached on an error and Nash Tyree (1-2, 2 RBI) walked. That set the stage for Hunter Bish (1-4, RBI), who singled to left to drive in Brandt.

Gus Peters continued, reaching safely after hitting into a fielder’s choice that plated Tyree. Bish scored on a sac fly by Kubiak, and just like that, it was 4-0.

Hallsville scored three in the third, but the Wildcats didn’t slow down. They added two in the top of the third, two more in the fourth, and the final three runs in the fifth.

P. Peters started the game and went three innings, allowing no runs on five hits with four strikeouts and a walk. Tyree closed the game with two earned runs on three hits, five strikeouts, and two walks.

Brandt (3-3, 2 RBI) singled in the second to drive in Dawson Sprenger, who had drawn a lead-off walk.

In the sixth, Linn found a groove after G. Peters (1-3) singled to start the frame. Kubiak reached on an error, and P. Peters (2-3) singled. G. Peters and Kubiak scored on an error, and later, Brandt hit another single to drive in P. Peters for a 4-0 lead.

Hallsville plated four in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game, and after eight innings, it ended as a tie.

Austin Royston got the start and went five innings; he allowed three earned runs on three hits, with a pair of strikeouts and two walks. In 2.2 innings, Sprenger allowed one earned run on two hits, with three strikeouts and a walk. In the final third of an inning, G. Peters struck out one and allowed no runs.

On Thursday, the Wildcats defeated St. James, 13-0, with six runs in the seventh, closing the door.

G. Peters led the offense with two hits, including a double, and three RBI. Craig Laughlin (double), Kubiak, Starke, Brandt, and Sprenger added a hit apiece.

Starke’s six-inning stretch resulted in no runs on one hit, with seven strikeouts and a walk. Sprenger kept it going with a strikeout and a walk, but no hits or runs, for the combined shutout.

Last Monday, the Wildcats lost 10-2 to the Dutchmen.

Trailing 3-0 in the third, Linn scored two. G. Peters was hit by a pitch and moved to second on defensive interference. Kubiak (1-4, RBI) reached on an error, which allowed G. Peters to score, and a P. Peters (4-4, RBI) single set up a scoring opportunity for Kubiak, who went home on the throw.

Bish, Sprenger, and Tyree also had a hit apiece.

G. Peters started the game and in two innings, allowed no runs on six hits, with four strikeouts and two walks. In two innings, Royston likewise held the Dutchmen scoreless, with two hits and a strikeout. In his two innings of work, Tyree gave up two earned runs on three hits, with three strikeouts and three walks.

The JV game ended in a 3-3 tie.

Linn trailed 3-0 in the top of the third and plated three to even the score.

Tyree (1-1) and Kubiak (1-1) singled to get it started, the former scoring on a passed ball, and the latter on an error. Starke (1-1) laid down a bunt single and later scored on a passed ball.

Carson Kempker’s 1.3-inning start allowed one earned run on three hits, with two strikeouts and a pair of walks. Bish worked the final inning, allowing no runs on two hits.
