Linn beats Russellville on senior night

Linn took the field last Monday at home for senior night and claimed a 30-6 victory over Russellville.

“We came out and played very well against Russellville,” said Coach Steve Samson. “Returning the opening kickoff for a touchdown doesn’t hurt. We had a little letdown after halftime, and they scored their kickoff return. All in all, it was a good win. I think we played our best game from start to finish, and everyone who played on offense and defense contributed in some way. Tyler Wagner had a good game at quarterback. He is starting to slow down a little in the backfield, which allows him to read the option better.”

After a 14-0 first quarter, the Wildcats added a touchdown and two-point conversion in second and third quarters.

Wagner completed one pass to Bobby Winkelman for 20 yards and ran the ball seven times for 47 yards.

Winkelman also had the kick-return touchdown for 91 yards.

Craig Laughlin had the most carries, garnering 67 yards on 12 carries with a touchdown and a two-point conversion.

Cameron Hoelscher, who scored two conversions, posted 27 yards on three touches. Aaden Nelson and Winkelman each had three carries, posting 12 and 11 yards, respectively.

Defensively, Logan Martin recovered two fumbles for 51 yards and five solo tackles with two assists. Joe Brandt added four solo tackles and an assist, followed by Devin Brandt (3 solo/2 assists), Arlyn Martin (2/2), Hunter Haslag (2/1), and Trevor Brandt and Connor Knoll (1/1).

Linn defeated Tipton 10-0 on Monday. A full game story will appear next week.
