Linn’s middle school girls’ track team opened the season with a win at last Tuesday’s Linn Quad, using the home meet to establish early marks while evaluating event placement across the roster.
“The middle school team started the season at home, and it was a really good meet for them,” Coach Robyn Baker said. “They got some jitters out and figured out all the moving parts of a track meet. We were able to put several kids in all the events, and that helped them and the coaches figure out the best fit for events. We didn’t have teams in the shorter relays because they hadn’t practiced handoffs, but teams were fielded in the longer relays, and those athletes did well. In a field of nine teams, the girls’ team placed first, and the boys’ team placed sixth. We are looking forward to the next meet and seeing what this group of talented athletes can accomplish.”
The girls’ team placed first out of nine teams, while the boys finished sixth.
Kenni Kramer led the girls’ distance events with a first-place finish in the 1600 (6:23.50), while Ava Winkelman added a win in the triple jump (8.36). Amelia Brandt was strong in the distance races, placing second in the 800 (3:03.18) and second in the 1600 (6:40.31). Norah Caldwell placed second in the triple jump (7.55), while Willow Reimund placed third in the 400 (1:16.59).
The girls’ relay teams also performed well, with the 4x400 team of Willow Reimund, Sophia Monroe, Kensington Kramer, and Norah Caldwell taking first (5:09.63) and the 4x800 team of Amelia Brandt, Allyson Entz, Lily Baker, and Caldwell placing second (12:03.84).
On the boys’ side, Ben Swann paced the distance events with a first-place finish in the 1600 (5:42.75). Trenton Vogler placed second in the 800 (2:35.50), while MJ Ramey-Pennington won the long jump (4.97). Colton Rachatellelle added a second-place finish in the shot put (8.79) and was third in the 1600 (6:12.35).
In the relays, the boys’ 4x800 team of Landon Engelhardt, Trenton Vogler, Michael Ramey-Pennington, and Ben Swann earned second (10:46.65), while the 4x400 team of Luke Scheulen, Ethan Grafe, Ramey-Pennington, and Swann finished third (4:47.15).
