Linn rebounds from Harrisburg     loss with win at Iberia

Linn bounced back from a 10-0 loss to Harrisburg on Monday with an 8-4 victory over district opponent Iberia Wednesday, breaking a tie with four runs in the seventh inning.

The Lady Wildcats managed only two hits against Harrisburg. “We couldn’t get the bats going,” said Coach Jason Dudenhoeffer. “We have to tip our hat to their pitcher. She shut us down the whole game.”

Harrisburg scored once in the first inning before taking control with eight runs in the second. The Lady Bulldogs finished with 11 hits, while Linn’s only hits came from Kenzy Hackmann and Elli Dudenhoeffer.

Emma Starke started in the circle for Linn and allowed eight runs, seven earned, on six hits and two walks in 1.1 innings. Anna Peters worked the remaining 3.2 innings, allowing two runs, one earned, on five hits with one walk and one strikeout.

Two days later, Linn answered with a much different offensive performance against Iberia.

The Lady Wildcats took a 1-0 lead in the first when E. Dudenhoeffer drove in Hackmann with a sacrifice fly. Iberia moved ahead 2-1 in the third, but Emma Starke’s triple tied the game in the fourth.

Iberia regained a 4-2 advantage in the bottom half before Linn pulled even in the fifth. Peters singled home one run, and E. Dudenhoeffer followed with an RBI double.

The score remained tied until the seventh, when Linn put together the decisive four-run inning. E. Dudenhoeffer singled home the go-ahead run, Paige Senevey doubled in two more, and another run scored on an Iberia error to give the Lady Wildcats an 8-4 lead.

“Great district opponent win,” J. Dudenhoeffer said. “We had some clutch hits late in the game to score four in the seventh inning. Early in the game we did the small things correctly to get a couple runs.”

E. Dudenhoeffer led Linn’s seven-hit attack by going 3-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored. Starke and Senevey each drove in a run, while Peters had one hit and one RBI. Hackmann reached twice, recording a hit and a walk, and scored twice.

Peters went the distance in the circle, allowing five hits and four unearned runs while striking out two and walking six.
