Linn scored two runs in the top of the first but lost last Tuesday’s road game to South Callaway, 5-2.
It didn’t take long. Dawson Sprenger (2-3, double, run) hit a one-out double and moved to third on a Jax Kubiak (2-3, triple, run) single. He advanced to second due to runner interference.
Peyten Peters (1-3, 2 RBI) stepped into the box and smashed a line drive to right field to plate both runs.
“This was a tough test against a good squad,” said Coach Caleb Thomas. “We hopped out to an early lead but just couldn’t piece together another inning.”
After the Bulldogs tied the game in the first, they steadily built a lead with a run in the second and one in each the fifth and sixth innings.
Linn had base-runners in almost every inning, including a Kubiak triple to lead off the sixth, followed two batters later by a one-out walk from Aaron Starke. However, both were stranded.
On the mound, Sprenger struck out four and walked two while allowing three earned runs on four hits over a five-inning start. In one inning of relief, Starke walked one but allowed no hits or earned runs.
