Linn track and field athletes opened the season at a home quad on March 23, using the meet as an early opportunity to establish marks and build confidence across events.
The Wildcats’ boys team won the meet, while the girls placed fourth.
The boys’ 4x800 relay team of Vince Tschappler, Emmit Mehmert, Reid Baker, and Jackson Hamburg placed second in 10:16.64, while the 4x200 relay team of Kahne Brandt, Aaden Nelson, Tommy Scheulen, and Cody Heckman was second in a time of 1:39.06.
Knox Sowders led the field events, winning the javelin with a throw of 37.74 meters. Ian Laughlin placed third in the discus (29.49), while Connor Knoll added a third-place finish in the javelin (27.86m).
On the track, Tommy Scheulen placed third in the 100-meter dash (12.24), while Heckman added a third-place finish in the 200 (25.83). Hamburg won the 3200 (12:20.66) and placed second in the 1600 (5:27.35), while Baker added a third-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles (49.66). Tschappler placed third in the 1600 (5:48.91).
On the girls’ side, Genna Haslag won the 3200 (15:19.55) and placed second in the triple jump (9.53m) to lead the field events. Madison Wood posted a first-place finish in the javelin (25.63m), while claiming fourth in the shot put (8.92). Bria Kempker added third-place finishes in both the 100-meter hurdles (22.51) and 300-meter hurdles (1:06.80) while Elyse Brandt was third in the 800 (3:26.83).
Linn’s 4x800 girls’ team of Sophia Lopez, Adalyn Brandt, Ruby Herndon, and Haslag placed first in 11:22.37, and the 4x400 relay team of Lopez, A. Brandt, E. Brandt, and Kempker finished second in 5:22.61.

WILDCATS FIFTH AT RUSSELLVILLE
Linn track and field athletes competed at the Russellville Open on March 26, facing a larger field after opening the season earlier in the week. Both teams finished fifth in the team standings.
The boys’ 4x800 relay team of Vince Tschappler, Emmit Mehmert, Reid Baker, and Jackson Hamburg won the event in 9:52.95. The 4x200 relay team of Kahne Brandt, Aaden Nelson, Tommy Scheulen, and Cody Heckman placed third in 1:38.06, while the 4x400 team of Scheulen, Colton Bridges, Andrew Rotter, and Tschappler placed second in 3:31.29.
Knox Sowders led the field events, placing second in the javelin (39.39m). Ian Laughlin placed second in the discus (30.10m), while Connor Knoll added a third-place finish in the shot put (10.63m).
On the track, Scheulen placed second in the 100 (11.89), while Heckman placed second in the 200 (24.69). Hamburg placed second in the 3200 (12:18.53), while Tschappler was second in the 1600 (5:36.97), and Baker added a third-place finish (12:56.85).
On the girls’ side, Madison Wood placed second in the javelin (27.24m) and third in the shot put (9.14m). The 4x200 relay team of Tiauna Friend, Bria Kempker, Adalyn Brandt, and Sophia Lopez placed third in 2:13.20.
