Travis Massman, 39, says a focus on community and steady leadership is driving his candidacy for the Fatima R-3 school board in the April 7 election.
Massman has lived in Westphalia his entire life and said his family’s long-standing roots in the area shape both his perspective and his commitment to the district. He and his wife have been married since 2011, and have two children. “The Massman family has been in Westphalia for generations,” he added, noting that his decision to run centers on a simple goal: “To help the school.”
Massman pointed to his leadership experience in local organizations as preparation for board service. He currently serves as vice president of the Westphalia Fire Department and is a member of the Westphalia Lions Club, where he previously held the role of president.
“I am a good leader and have great work ethic,” he said.
Massman emphasized that the district’s greatest strength lies in its people and the connection between the school and community.
Looking ahead, Massman said his priorities would center on maintaining a strong educational environment while ensuring stability and fairness across the district in, “making sure our kids get the best educational experience possible,” he said.
Massman added that his top priorities include keeping the district, “fair, safe and always looking forward to our future.”
He asserted that communication and accountability would be key components of his approach if elected.
“Speaking with the community and following through on my promises,” are also important to Massman.
Asked why voters should support his candidacy, Massman pointed to his character and work ethic. “I am a hard working, honest, and respectful,” he said.
Massman said he remains accessible to residents and encourages direct conversation.
“Just talk to me,” he said. “I’m at a lot of the area functions and fundraisers.”
