Dear Editor:
The editorial in the March 25 edition of the Unterrified Democrat bears on the most important question of our time. If you haven’t taken in this message, the error can be easily corrected by seeking out the online edition of the UD, but the concluding paragraph states:
“The only time in the New Testament when people left Jesus was this teaching on the Eucharist. It is in the Eucharist that Jesus gives his whole self to us. In return, he asks us to give ourselves to him.”
That is indeed a primary reason why people, from the beginning of Christianity to modern times, have declined to follow Jesus. But while for some it is a reason for leaving, for others it is the fundamental reason for staying because St. John also tells us that Jesus declared:
“I myself am the living bread come down from heaven. If anyone eats this bread, he shall live forever; the bread I will give is my flesh for the life of the world.”
Along with other news about local happenings, these are highly valuable items to contemplate during Holy Week as we approach Easter.
With Blessings for All,
