MISSOURI — The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported 10 people were killed in traffic crashes during the 2025 Christmas holiday counting period, which ran from 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 24, through 11:59 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 28.
Troopers investigated a total of 258 traffic crashes statewide during the period, resulting in 94 injuries and 10 fatalities. In addition, 93 arrests were made for driving while intoxicated. The figures are preliminary.
By comparison, during the 2024 Christmas holiday counting period, troopers investigated 81 crashes that included four fatalities and 44 injuries. Statewide totals last year reflected five deaths and 133 injuries across 295 crashes, with 18 DWI arrests reported.
The patrol reported no boating crashes, boating fatalities, drownings, or boating while intoxicated arrests during the 2025 holiday period.
The patrol noted that the length of the Christmas holiday counting period varies by year, depending on the day of the week the holiday falls. In 2025, Christmas Day occurred on a Thursday, resulting in a 4.25-day counting period. In 2024, when Christmas fell on a Wednesday, the counting period lasted 1.25 days.
