Linn volleyball coach Megan Russell recently presented awards to her players.
At the varsity level, offensive awards were presented to Ali Russell (serving), as she counted 71 aces in 361 attempts with only 36 errors, an average of nearly one ace per set. She maintained a 90% service rate with 19.6% being aces.
Kylie Goans earned Newcomer of the Year honors after she played every position at one point in the season except libero. She had 654 attacks, 228 kills and only 79 hitting errors on the season. Goans averaged 2.5 kills/set with a 22.8% hitting rate and 34.9% kill margin, which earned her the kills award. She had 214 assist in the season averaging 2.4 assist/set, and posted 57 aces, with an 84.7% serving mark, and aces 18.8% of the time.
Nicole Grellner (assists) averaged five assists per set to finish with 463 on the year, and won the digs award after collecting 287, an average of 3.1 per set.
Defensive awards were presented to Jorja Kempker (receptions) with 417, an average of 4.5 per set, and Carley Brandt (blocks), who finished with 64, nearly one per set.
Nevaeh Ames was named Most Improved Player after ending the season with 239 attacks, 103 kills, and only 41 hitting errors. She had a 25.9% hitting percentage and a 43.1% kill rate.
Though unofficial, Coach Russell said she expect all nine varsity players to earn Academic All-State nominations as they maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.6 or above while playing in at least 75% of varsity matches. Those players are Grellner Brandt, Kempker, Russell, Rieke, Ames, Goans, Kendra Robinson, and Riley Kay.
